Why We’re Here

Our mission is to provide a sustainable local broadcast news and lifestyle television channel for residents and visitors in the Catskills, in a way that nurtures community engagement and builds capacity and opportunities for all stakeholders, so that the Catskills can both honor traditions and promote progress, strengthening the region’s sense of place and possibility.

How We Got Here

CatskillsAir began as a vision from Glen Faulkner, General Manager of Margaretville Telephone Company. Responding to a lack of local news and information sources, Glen brought together a group of Catskills-based talents, to start a local broadcast TV station, with the purpose of providing Catskills-focused news and entertainment.

After more than a year of planning, CatskillsAir was launched under the volunteer leadership of former music industry executive Chris Hensley, MTC Marketing Director Matthew Steen, and Spillian founder Leigh Melander PhD, with generous pro bono legal support from attorney Dennis Metnick as an independent LLC. In January, 2021. CatskillsAir brought television veteran Kevin Mattice on board as Program Director, began its first broadcasts, and entered into partnerships with the Mountain Eagle news organization and Delhi Telephone Company.

In 2022, CatskillsAir moved into their current location on Route 28 in Arkville, where they have a physical broadcast studio, providing access to production resources for content creators and community members.
